Zendesk alternative for Shopify, without seats and without an AI meter.
You pay per agent seat, then again per AI resolution. Arbyn charges $0, $59 or $99, flat.
Zendesk is the enterprise standard. It also runs two meters at once: the agent seats, and the automated resolutions, at $1.50 each if you commit to a volume or $2.00 pay-as-you-go.
The real bill
What you’d actually pay.
Three real scenarios at three real volumes, using Zendesk AI's published 2026 pricing and the automation rate their own team recommends. Arbyn's side is a flat monthly price you pick in advance, with nothing metered on top of it.
Store owner plus one part-time helper. Two Suite Professional seats on an annual commitment, plus AI Agent fully resolving 30% of conversations at Zendesk's committed $1.50 rate, past the 20 resolutions those two seats include. At 500 conversations, Arbyn lands on the $59 Growth plan, not the $99 Agent plan.
Three Suite Professional seats on an annual commitment. The seat line is fixed. The AI line is metered at $1.50 per committed automated resolution, past the allotment those three seats include, and it is what grows.
Six Suite Professional seats on an annual commitment. Peak season is exactly when the AI meter runs hardest, and Zendesk's own pricing table charges $2.00 per resolution instead of $1.50 if you did not commit to the volume in advance.
Re-read August 2026. Support Team $19, Suite Team $55 and Suite Professional $115 per agent per month billed yearly are from zendesk.com/pricing. The Suite Growth ($89) and Suite Enterprise ($150) seat prices, which zendesk.com withholds, are published on Zendesk's own Shopify App Store listing. Included AI allotments (5, 10 and 15 automated resolutions per agent per month) are from Zendesk's documentation. Until August 2026 this page said Zendesk published no per-resolution rate at all. Re-read this session, zendesk.com/pricing's own plan-comparison table now publishes exactly two: $1.50 per committed automated resolution, $2.00 pay-as-you-go, applying to Support Team, Suite Team and Suite Professional alike. Scenario totals use the cheaper, committed $1.50 rate, net of each plan's included allotment, and assume AI Agent fully resolves 30% of conversations, the same assumption the /pricing calculator uses. Verified against zendesk.com/pricing.
Pricing model decoded
Suite plans. Plus AI. On top of everything.
Zendesk Suite looks like a normal per-seat plan until you turn on AI agents. From then on two meters run at once: the seats, and the automated resolutions, at $1.50 each if you commit to a volume in advance or $2.00 pay-as-you-go. Both climb with your traffic. Suite Enterprise is "Talk to Sales" on zendesk.com; Zendesk's own Shopify App Store listing publishes it at $150 per agent per month billed annually.
The included AI allowance is small. Suite Team includes 5 automated resolutions per agent per month, Growth and Professional 10, Enterprise 15, up to a maximum of 10,000 allocated automated resolutions per year. Past your allotment, Zendesk's own pricing table publishes $1.50 per resolution if you commit to a volume in advance, or $2.00 pay-as-you-go, on Support Team, Suite Team and Suite Professional alike. To their credit, Zendesk lets you cap the number of automated resolutions your account can consume each month, and says you are not immediately charged for overage usage.
AI agents are included. The meter still runs. Zendesk AI agents are included in every Suite and Support plan, and an automated resolution is counted when a customer's issue is resolved without live-agent intervention. Resolutions above your small per-agent allowance bill on top of the seat. Separately, the Copilot add-on, which layers agent-assist tools onto each seat, is listed at $50 per agent per month billed yearly. Zendesk's pricing page also notes that features like App Builder, Action Builder and Voice bill on consumption above plan allowances, so the AI meter is not even the only usage meter on the account.
Zendesk is a helpdesk first, not a Shopify app. Zendesk reaches Shopify through an integration app that pulls order data into the ticket. Zendesk does not claim that its AI refunds or re-addresses a Shopify order inside the conversation. Arbyn takes the action on the order itself, the address change on its own and the refund on your approval, and writes it to the Shopify order timeline, so the record of what the AI did lives where you already look.
You are budgeting with a missing number. The seat line you can forecast: $55, $89, $115 or $150 per agent per month on an annual commitment. The AI line climbs past a small per-agent allotment at $1.50 per resolution if you commit to a volume in advance, or $2.00 pay-as-you-go, so it still moves with how busy you actually are. Arbyn is $99 a month, flat, unlimited conversations and unlimited AI resolutions, with a $59 plan for up to 500 a month and a $0 plan that covers 150 before you pay anything.

The honest part
Where Zendesk AI actually wins.
A page that only says “we win” is a sales pitch, not a comparison. So here are three things Zendesk AI genuinely does better than Arbyn today, no hedging. Take them seriously if they matter to your store. Most Shopify store owners weigh them against $0, $59 or $99 a month, flat, and an agent that can act on the order, and switch anyway.
Where Zendesk AI is genuinely ahead, stated plainly.
Zendesk AI has had more time in market: a deeper integration library in some cases, more edge cases tuned, and occasionally phone support Arbyn does not offer yet. If your stack already leans on that today, it is worth weighing seriously.
It is also part of why these tools bill by the ticket or the resolution: more surface area to maintain, more infrastructure to pay for. Arbyn is built narrower on purpose, one agent that acts on the order (address changes on its own, refunds and returns with your approval) right inside the conversation, in your brand voice, across email and chat, for $0, $59 or $99 a month flat depending only on how many conversations you get. For most Shopify store owners, that trade wins.
Switch to Arbyn anyway when: you want one bill you can forecast, you want the AI to actually re-address the order inside the conversation on its own and hand you refunds and returns to approve in one tap, and you do not need phone support.
- 01Their entry seats cost less than Arbyn. Support Team is $19 per agent per month and Suite Team is $55, both billed yearly. For a one-person team that barely touches AI, that is a smaller line item than Arbyn's $59 Growth plan, let alone the $99 Agent plan.
- 02Compliance, reporting and scale. Zendesk has been doing this since 2007 and carries the certifications, routing, and agent tooling that large support organisations need. Arbyn is built for Shopify stores, not for a 200-seat contact centre.
- 03Voice. Zendesk Talk gives you phone support, and Zendesk publishes a Contact Center add-on at $83 per agent per month. Arbyn does not do voice at all.
Where Arbyn wins
Three reasons store owners actually switch.
One meter, not two
$99 a month, flat, for unlimited conversations and unlimited AI resolutions, or $59 for up to 500 a month. There is no second per-resolution rate to hunt for, because there isn't one.
Shopify-native actions
Arbyn changes the shipping address inside the conversation on its own, and issues refunds and starts returns with your approval, then logs it to the Shopify order timeline. It acts on the order, not around it.
Start at $0
The free Starter plan gives you 150 AI conversations a month with full features, permanently. No seats to buy before you find out whether it works.
Arbyn vs Zendesk AI: common questions
Arbyn has three flat plans, $0, $59 or $99 a month, and we will be straight with you: below a certain volume Zendesk AI genuinely costs less than Arbyn, and this page shows you exactly where that line falls instead of hiding it. Zendesk AI is priced per seat, plus a $1.50-$2.00 ai resolution meter, so their bill climbs with your store while ours is a figure you choose in advance. If you are small and staying small, they may well be the cheaper choice. If you are growing, the flat line wins.
