ICIllumiChatCredit-metered, cap not consistent across their own pages

IllumiChat alternative for Shopify, without a credit cap their own pages can't agree on.

IllumiChat's pricing page, its Shopify listing, and its own billing docs each name a different credit allowance for the same $29 plan. Arbyn is $99, flat, with one number, everywhere.

IllumiChat's $29 entry tier is real, and it is credit-metered. What that credit buys depends which IllumiChat page you read. Arbyn runs on email and on-site chat for $99 a month flat, or $0 to start, and the number does not change depending on which page you're on.

Their Pro credit cap

The real difference

What each one actually does.

IllumiChat is not free, and its $29 entry tier is genuinely less than Arbyn's $99 at low volume, we say so above. But its own pages cannot agree on how much that $29 buys, so this is not a cost-math page. It is about what actually happens when a customer wants their money back, and which channels are live today, not roadmapped.

What their own $29 plan actually includes
Same $29/mo Pro plan, three IllumiChat pages

illumichat.com/pricing states "Up to 2,000 credits/month" for Pro. apps.shopify.com/illumichat-v2 states "Up to 1,200 credits/month" for the identical $29/mo plan. docs.illumichat.com, IllumiChat's own billing documentation, also states 1,200. We re-read all three the same week and the numbers held. We are not picking one and calling it fact.

IllumiChat: 2,000 credits/mo (their pricing page) or 1,200 (their Shopify listing and their own billing docs)
Arbyn: $99/mo flat, unlimited AI conversations, or $0 for 150/mo
MOST COMMON
A customer wants their money back, or the order cancelled
Refund, cancellation, discount, or gift card, mid-conversation

IllumiChat's own documentation for its Shopify integration names exactly four toggleable actions: Product Search, Order Tracking, Cart Management, and Customer Updates. Customer Updates edits the customer's saved address book, the address on file for next time, not the shipping address on a specific order that hasn't shipped yet. No refund, cancellation, discount, or gift-card action appears anywhere in that doc.

IllumiChat's own Shopify Actions doc lists four actions. None of them is a refund, a cancellation, a discount, or a gift card
Arbyn issues the refund, cancels the order, applies the discount, or sends the gift card, once you approve it, and logs it to the order timeline
Which channels are actually live
Messaging channels, as each vendor documents them

IllumiChat's homepage schema claims six channels including email. Its own, more detailed Channels documentation lists five, and does not include email, nor does its docs site carry a dedicated email feature page anywhere in its 45-page index. Either reading, five real channels against Arbyn's two is a genuine, sourced gap in IllumiChat's favour, and we are not softening it.

IllumiChat's own Channels doc lists 5: SMS, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram DM, and Live Chat
Arbyn's live channels today: support email and on-site live chat. The rest is roadmap, not shipped

Verified July 2026, re-checked 2026-07-17. IllumiChat's own pricing page states $0 Free / 100 credits, $29/mo Pro ($290/yr) / 2,000 credits, and a custom Scale tier with unlimited credits. Its own Shopify App Store listing states the identical $29/mo Pro plan at 1,200 credits, not 2,000, and its Free plan at 100 credits. Its own billing documentation states Free at 50 credits, Pro at 1,200 credits, and defines one credit as one AI chat message, flat, where the pricing page's own FAQ says a credit's cost depends on the model chosen and the actions taken. Three first-party IllumiChat pages, not fully agreeing with each other on the numbers or the definition. We publish the model, not a disputed number. Verified against illumichat.com/pricing.

Pricing model decoded

Three pages. Three different credit caps.

IllumiChat's $29 Pro plan is the same plan on every page. What it includes depends which IllumiChat page you are reading, and its billing docs describe what a credit even costs differently than its own pricing-page FAQ.

The same $29 plan, three different credit caps. illumichat.com/pricing says "Up to 2,000 credits/month." apps.shopify.com/illumichat-v2 says "Up to 1,200 credits/month." docs.illumichat.com/account says 1,200. All three read live, the same week, describing the same $29 plan. We are not picking one and presenting it as the number. Two contradicting first-party sources is not a verified figure, and a page that picks one anyway and calls it fact does not survive a reader who checks the vendor's own pricing page next.

1 vs. variable

Their own pages disagree on what a credit even costs. IllumiChat's billing documentation says plainly that every AI chat message uses one credit, flat. Its pricing-page FAQ says the number of credits a response costs depends on the model you choose and how many actions are needed. One says fixed. One says variable. Both are IllumiChat's own words, about IllumiChat's own product.

50 / 100 / 100

Even the free plan splits three ways. Free-plan credits: 100 on their pricing page, 100 on their Shopify listing, 50 in their own billing docs. The two pages that agree with each other on the free plan are the same two that disagree with each other on the paid plan. There is no single IllumiChat page that is right every time.

14 days

IllumiChat's own trial. Not ours. IllumiChat's billing docs say every new workspace starts a 14-day Pro trial automatically, no card required, then auto-downgrades to Free if you do not upgrade. That is a fact about IllumiChat, reported accurately. Arbyn has no trial at any point: the $0 Starter plan is permanent, not a countdown.

The honest part

Where IllumiChat actually wins.

A page that only says “we win” is a sales pitch, not a comparison. So here are three things IllumiChat genuinely does better than Arbyn today, no hedging. Take them seriously if they matter to your store. Most Shopify store owners weigh them against a flat $99 a month (or $0 to start) and an agent that can act on the order, and switch anyway.

Where IllumiChat is genuinely ahead, stated plainly.

IllumiChat has had more time in market: a deeper integration library in some cases, more edge cases tuned, and occasionally phone support Arbyn does not offer yet. If your stack already leans on that today, it is worth weighing seriously.

It is also part of why these tools bill by the ticket or the resolution: more surface area to maintain, more infrastructure to pay for. Arbyn is built narrower on purpose, one agent that acts on the order (address changes on its own, refunds and returns with your approval) right inside the conversation, in your brand voice, across email and chat, for $99 a month flat or $0 to start. For most Shopify store owners, that trade wins.

Switch to Arbyn anyway when: you want one number you do not have to reconcile across three of the vendor's own pages, you want the AI to change the address on the order itself and refund, cancel, discount or gift-card it once you approve, and you do not need Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, or SMS today.

  • 01IllumiChat's own product documentation lists five live messaging channels: SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram DM, and website live chat. Arbyn's live channels today are support email and on-site live chat. Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, voice and SMS are on our roadmap, not live yet.
  • 02Their entry paid tier costs less than Arbyn at low volume. IllumiChat Pro is $29/month ($290/year); Arbyn Agent is $99/month flat. A store whose usage stays inside whatever IllumiChat's real credit cap turns out to be pays less on IllumiChat Pro than on Arbyn.
  • 03IllumiChat's Pro and Enterprise tiers add configurable extras Arbyn does not sell as separate knobs: API access, custom branding, multiple team members and workspaces, and, on Enterprise, MCP tool integrations and SSO/SAML. Arbyn's two plans differ only by conversation volume; every feature is on, on both.

Where Arbyn wins

Three reasons store owners actually switch.

01 / One number, not three

One number, not three

$99 a month, flat, unlimited AI conversations. Nothing to reconcile between a pricing page, an App Store listing, and a billing doc, because there is one number, and it is the only one anywhere.

The IllumiChat quirk

IllumiChat's own pricing page, its own Shopify listing, and its own billing documentation each state a different monthly credit allowance for the identical $29 Pro plan: 2,000, 1,200, and 1,200. The Free plan splits three ways too: 100, 100, and 50.

02 / Acts on the order, not the address book

Acts on the order, not the address book

Arbyn changes the shipping address on the order itself, inside the conversation, on its own, and issues a refund, cancels the order, applies a discount, or sends a gift card once you approve it, then logs it to the Shopify order timeline. IllumiChat's own Shopify Actions documentation lists four actions: product search, order tracking, cart management, and updating a customer's saved address book. It does not document a refund, a cancellation, a discount, or a gift card.

The IllumiChat quirk

IllumiChat's "Customer Updates" action needs only a read_customers scope, per their own docs, and edits the address on file for next time, not the shipping address on a specific order that has not shipped yet.

03 / Start at $0

Start at $0

The free Starter plan gives you 150 AI conversations a month with every feature on, permanently. No trial clock, no plan to guess your way into.

The IllumiChat quirk

IllumiChat's own billing docs say every new workspace starts a 14-day Pro trial automatically, no card required, then auto-downgrades to Free when it ends. That is a fact about IllumiChat, not a knock on it; Arbyn simply has no trial at any point.

Arbyn vs IllumiChat: common questions

Arbyn is $99/month flat for unlimited AI conversations, and we will be straight with you: below a certain volume IllumiChat genuinely costs less than Arbyn, and this page shows you exactly where that line falls instead of hiding it. IllumiChat is priced credit-metered, cap not consistent across their own pages, so their bill climbs with your store while ours stays put. If you are small and staying small, they may well be the cheaper choice. If you are growing, the flat line wins.
